You Know It's Cold When....

You know it's cold when -

Check out the Canadian Weather Network

Today it is -30C, which to those who use the Fahrenheit system, equates to
-24F...factor in the windchill which is sitting at -45C, and yup - it's freakin' cold here today.

We woke up not being able to start the truck...good luck trying to reach AMA.

Surprisingly, schools were still open, although Paden gets to stay home today since we're 'sans' vehicle....

You know it's cold when your car won't start.

You know it's cold when the cars that do start are left running...all day long!

You know it's cold when you walk outside and when you inhale, your nostrils stick together.

You know it's cold when you get an instant ice cream headache, without the benefit of having ice cream.

You know it's cold when your latte turns into ice cream...(wish I had one of those right now)

You know it's cold when you don't see anyone out walking their dog.

You know it's cold when you see the dog stuck to the hydrant....hahahahaha.

You know it's cold when even the snowmen are shivering.

B-o-l-o-g-n-a

You ALL know the words....I was trying to explain this song to Paden the other day...and when I sang it, of course he laughed at me and called me weird...hahahaha...but, it brings back memories and I thought you might like it too....cause oscar mayer has a way with b-o-l-o-g-n-a...don't laugh, that jingle got me through more than one spelling bee!!!!

Hanging On

I submitted this photo to 'The International Library of Photography' before Christmas...but somehow I think I ended up with something more along the lines of Publisher's Clearing House.

I enjoy taking pictures. The pictures I'm most comfortable taking are of landscapes, flora, fauna, wildlife...I know I would never make a portrait photographer, and I'm fine with that, I do it for the enjoyment - not for anything else.

So I get this email, and snail mail saying that my 'photograph was selected for publication because of its unique perspective and my artistic vision'...puh-leez. I can tell when someone is blowing proverbial smoke you-know-where. I know some of the shots I take aren't bad, but this is a bit over the top.
So now (from what they are saying) I guess my photo is going to be in a coffee table book....and for only $69.95 yes you too can own a copy....see where I'm going with this? I feel like they are pandering my photo back to me. Very bizarro.

And since the selection committee has 'advanced my entry to the finals of the Animal/Pets category in the International Open Amateur Photography Category', wouldn't I love to be there in Las Vegas at their national convention and be there in person to receive (possibly) my 'award'? yes! for only the cost of flight, hotel and food... Good Grief! If I want a vacation, Las Vegas would not be my first choice.

Thanks, but no thanks. I'll keep snapping away and make postcards or something. :)

So if you like that particular photo, please feel free to right click and download it to your computer...and I won't be charging you $69.95.

The Ham and the Hamster

The dayschool that Paden goes to has a resident hamster called Nibbles.
I'm not one for rodents, but I do have to say, this little thing has quite the personality.

In the spirit of 'community', Paden put his name down to have the little critter for a weekend, since the poor little thing would be very lonely on his own at school for a whole weekend....
....I don't think our cat Comet was amused....

....but Paden was pretty jazzed...

Tripping over the Feet

What's that saying???...'put your best foot forward'....
Well, I think I'm lacking in that department with regards to the upkeep on my blahg.

What's the other saying??? 'the best laid plans'....
[insert the 'tell it to the hand' gesture]

I did have all these grandiose plans for 2008...more blahgs, more pics, more more more....
*sigh*

Right now it's more like stumbling instead of the best foot forward thing...there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day for the things I want to accomplish. Maybe as Rip Torn says in the movie 'Men in Black' I should be operating on the alien system of a 36 hour day!

I'll get round to it - eventually.

Bear with me - I'm having enough of a time bearing with myself!!!! heehee

The house is still in the process of being unpacked and trying to find place for everything, I need to think 'baby steps'.....okay, here I go.....crap!!!!! my fingers just tripped over the keyboard!
